I don't have a display option under my settings, so I can't disable hardware acceleration. How do I

I'm having problems watching videos on youtube and I think it might have something to do with enabled hardware acceleration. The screen flashes as I watch videos. The only problem is that when I right-click the video and select settings, there's no display option so I can't disable it. This happens on both internet explorer and google chrome on a windows 8 system. I've uninstalled and installed chrome again but the problem is still there. My laptop is only a couple of weeks old but this has been a problem since I started using it. How do I fix this please?
