Adobe Flash ---I have spent large parts of the last couple of days coping, then trying to figure out a cptr problem -------cptr apparently overloading hard drive--I get constant hard drive activity light--which then periodically---5-10 times a day-- freezes up the cptr for 1 to as much as 3-4 minutes until it clears open browser windows and other documents show "not responding' and go white/ hazed over in color. ---------------------------This started happening about 2-3 weeks ago, and seems to have gotten worse. (Over that time I think I have updated Adobe Flash about twice---the first time by the automatic updater--to Flash 11.7 I think;----and just today in my effort to fix THIS problem, a manual update to 11.8.800.94. | ----------------------------By process of elimination, today I discovered that this problem is caused by adobe flash----that I have started using more of lately, for some chart windows for quick looks that come up.and some sstreaming video that before this has worked just fine. ----------------------------------------------It (the Flash) appears to build up higher and higher RAM usage it appears-----and somehow gets the hard drive involved (my understanding-theory from some reading on the internet--such that when RAM gets loaded up with system needs plus programs that use/ hog it (like Adobe Flash?), the cpu takes the pages in ram and puts them on the hard drive foor temporary storage to make space for current/ added memory needs--(where they can be brought back if needed later)--------------and it loads the read -write capability fully while doing it, and freezes the capability of the pc to do anything else while doing so ("not responding") (I am not a tech person so I barely understand what I just wrote in the previous sentence, but that is what I was able to glean as maybe part of what is going on, from looking around at support/ help sites on the net.-------------------------------------------- All the problem went away when I disabled the Flash plug-in in Firefox, and I have use the computer all day today with no problems at all, I can't see some stuff that uses flash however, and I would like to get the capabilitu back. | -----NOTE: my computer is a DELL 1720 wiith a good ca 2009 Intel dual core processor, running Vista Home Premium, the cptr has a pretty hard drive that is only about 6 months old; and my browser is Firefox. |
