Until I retired I worked in a library and was responsible for updating five public access computers. The person who took over for me asked me to help her with this problem. She's so new she can't tell me what she might have done to create this problem. Here's what I can tell you.
Windows 7 Professional (32-bit), with DriveShield installed. After unprotecting DriveShield, the update is initiated from the Staff security login. Updates for flash is set to manual update.
Since the new person took over, 2 of the 5 computers will not automatically go to the Flash update webpage. Instead, initiating a manual update automatically opens up Microsoft Word 2010 and what looks like non-html text from the adobe flash website appears. Each line of text is underlined as if it were a url link. Clicking on the link results in a 'do not have administrative security to access' error.
The file name that appears as the Word document opens is in the form of a url address starting with http://adobe (etc.)
I could not locate any Word file matching this file name.
Removed and re-installed Adobe Flash. Manual update gave me the same result .. it still opens a Word file and not the Flash update webpage.
However .. if I use the "All" security access, the Flash update does work.
I've been doing these updates for five years and have never, ever gotten myself into this perdicament. Obviously I am going bonkers now trying to figure out how to help her fix the problem.
Any idea what went wrong?
Suggestions on what to troubleshoot next?
Better yet, what's the remedy?
