Why can't I watch any videos at NPR's website on my iMac?

I can't watch any videos on NPR website on my iMac. I can however watch videos on YouTube and every other website I have tried them on. I have the latest Flash Player and am using the Safari Browser on my iMac with Mountain Lion OS X v.10.8.4. All I get is a dead page when I click a link to a music video on the NPR site...there is a dark, blank video screen with a start/play arrow..I click on that and nothing every happens.....There is also a link on these pages to download the audio version of the music and that works just fine..I download an mp3 to the desktop and listen to it through iTunes...but If I want to see any of the NPR videos I have to find them on YouTube and watch them there. A royal pain in the butt. I have contacted NPR and they cannot figure out what my problem is caused by. Any clue? Am I the only person in the universe this is happening to? I tried Googling various topics to cover the issue and find nothing. I am very frustrated...especially since I just had my computer upgraded and totally cleaned up. It's a Mac for crying out loud. This ain't suppose to happen to me...it......oy!  Can anyone  help me here? I'd greatly appreciate it.

for example: on this page:

http://www.npr.org/event/music/201517132/dana-falconberry-tiny-desk-co ncert

when I go to this page, the http://www/npr.org is highlighted in the address space but the rest of the url is light gray....the staus bar is blank...it's like it goes into shock at that point and ends there...although, as I said..I can use the hot 'download audio' link and download the audio version of the performance to my desktop....
