YouTube request Flash Player download

This problem is driving me nuts. In most playbacks the YouTube videos play ok but in an ever increasing amount of videos YouTube just shows a pixalated screen with a message that says that i need to download Flash Player and includes a link to do this. My system is Windows 8.1 running using a 64 bit. When i click on this link i am taken to Adobe download page and then i click a further link that checks if Flash Player is installed on my system. This then tells me that i am not running Internet Explorer in Windows 8. Further down the same page are several links to download various versions of Flash Player. I click on the link to download the one for my system then during the installation i get a message that says that the version of Flash Player i am downloading is not the right one for my system! What do i have to do to get the videos to play on YouTube? Incidentaly the version of YouTube that is on my system is for the 32 bit system and there doesn't appear to be a YouTube version for 64 bit systems. Help??????
