Flash Player: How to get the automated Checking and Notification to work after an update failure.

I have set up the Adobe Flash Player program in my computer (Windows 7 64 bit SP1) to check and notify me when there is an update.

I got a notification about an update on April 15, 2013. I had updated the Flash Player program many times with these notifications in the past. This time when I clicked to download the update, it did not download and I got a small message about an error.

Since the last Flash Player update, there has been two changes in my computer. IE 10 is new as I installed it with the updates that I get from Microsoft. I have also installed Norton Internet Security. My guess is that Norton Internet Security did not allow the download to proceed and complete.

Later, I found the following entry in my windows logs.

Log Name: Application,

Date: 4/15/2013,

Faulting application name: FlashUtil64_11_6_602_180_ActiveX.exe,

version: 11.6.602.180,

Faulting module name: ntdll.dll,

version: 6.1.7601.17725,

Exception code: 0xc0000005,

Fault offset: 0x00000000000532d0.

Now I think that I need to stop Norton Internet Security before I run Flash Player updates.

I have read the Adobe's installation problems page "http://helpx.adobe.com/flash-player/kb/installation-problems-flash-pla yer-windows.html"

and based on the information there, I checked and Active scripting in enabled under both Internet and Trusted sites.

I have three questions.

1. Why don't I receive the notification again? Is there something written in a file or someplace that I need to clean or remove to have the automated checking and notification process to work again? What do I need to do to have automated checking process to work again?

2. If I download the most recent version myself from Adobe's website, do I need to uninstall the currently installed version from Control Panel -> Programs and then install the new version or does the new version installation first uninstalls the currently installed version? Is this the URL "[http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/ | http://get.adobe.com/flashplayer/]" to use to get the most recent version?

3. In Adobe's installation problems page, I see the following section and link: Progress bar hangs during download/ unable to connect to server/ unable to download metafile and the proposed workaround is to download the Adobe Flash Player installer directly by using the following link. "[http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install _flash_player_ax.exe | http://download.macromedia.com/pub/flashplayer/current/support/install _flash_player_ax.exe]" What is the difference between installing a new version (question no. 2) and downloading the installer? Is this what I need to do?

Thank you.
